Winterhaven Trader's Bank
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Winterhaven Traders Bank is a banking business in Winterhaven that offers money-lending and secured storage to the merchants and traders that come through Winterhaven. It is owned and operated by a very old man by the name of Stephon Winterghast.

The bank is located on the north side of the settlement and has been well established since the early days of Winterhaven. It carries a good working reputation with it's customers and the people of Winterhaven. The bank is established within a well-secured building that is said to have magical wards placed all through the structure by the wizard "Valthrun" to assist in the location remaining secure at all times.

Valthrun also has many valuable items stored within this bank which explains why he has helped keep this structure secure from robbers.

This local bank is endorsed by lord mayor Ernest Padraig and during all business hours one can always find at least two guards stationed inside as well as outside the bank at the entrance.

The Bank
The bank offers a fairly straightforward service. Individuals can deposit their hard-earned coin within the secured building and withdraw the same amount at a later date. Information about the amounts of transactions and the bank's clientele are kept secret. The banks handling fees are 3% for all coin deposits and storage (no matter the length of time the bank holds a customers coin and valuables) and 4% are non coin valuables stored within the bank.

The Winterhaven Traders Bank does not offer loands to customers. It is strictly a location within Winterhaven that exchanges coin and stores valuables for this in need "at a small fee of course". Storge of items has no time limit but the storage fees ddo adjust with the length of time the items are stored here.

Alaster's Provisions
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The proprietor of this establishment is Alaster Grendis, who is a elderly half elf. He has tan skin, a groomed mustache and beard and blond hair and carries himself very well. He employs a couple of young clerks (Vander and Terrick) who help load and unload wagons, and who wait on customers when Alaster isn't around.

Virtually all sorts of saleable goods are offered here. Rare and/or unusual items might be obtained at a price and in time (and will often be spurious or faulty). Magical items are NOT sold here ever! The store itself is medium sized at best. Alaster's Provisions is a large trading house in Winterhaven.

1. Clothing and Packs: peasant equipment is about 90% of list price, rounded down; dungeoneering items are 100% rounded up.

2. Footwear, Gloves & Belts: Prices to adventurers is 125% of list, 80% to villagers.

3. Lighting Equipment: Tinderboxes, candles, oil, lamps, wicks, lanterns etc are 110% of list, rounded up.

4. Hand Tools: Hammers, adzes, planes, nails, saws etc. A file sells for 1sp and up. Saws cost cost about the same as a hand axe or hatchet.

5. Food & Herbs: Rations packed to go are 110% of list, and herbs are 140% of list.

6. Ropes, Chains & Dungeoneering Gear: (including writing materials and religious items) 100% of list.

7. Tack, Harness, Wheelbarrows & Dungeon Carts: All in stock will be at 75% of list.

The store is located on the south side of Winterhaven, and to the west of owners home. It is the first shop that will be seen when entering Winterhaven from the settlement from King's Road.

Alaster's Provisions acts as a general store, and is open from dawn until dusk. It sells low-cost trade wares, such as adventuring gear, as well as rations and other simple goods, and is perhaps the only place in the entire region that carries specialty skull-shaped butter from Stonespine Ranch "located a little under a mile south of Winterhaven". However, they do not sell weapons and armor or potions, but Alaster will helpfully direct interested buyers to places where they could find these. For larger orders, Alaster will supply a cart pulled by his ox to move the goods "for a price of course".

Alaster's Provisions also serves as a trading hub. Clerks will unload and load carts of goods and resources that they come into, or were to go out of, Winterhaven via wagon. Alaster also brokers deals for large sales of livestock and similar goods, bringing together local sellers from as far away as Fallcrest with buyers as far afield as Nenlast.

Winterhaven Stables
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Anna Stelton owns this business, providing travelers with tack, harness, stabling, shoeing, wagons, and just about anything dealing with horses, mules, or ponies. She keeps a larger corral about a mile outside of town, and at any given time Anna has several riding horses, draft horses, or mules in his paddock near Wizard’s Gate. The young lady is an excellent source of rumors, since she sees the travelers coming or going by the roads. She is a friendly fellow of about forty, with a large brood of children at his home out in the countryside.

Nentir Inn
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Nentir Inn, a rather cozy Inn that is said to be one of the oldest structures in this city. The Inn has an aged look and feel to it but seems well put together and very well maintained. Most of the clientele have plenty of coin to spend ... "mostly being travelers and adventurers passing through". The Nentir Inn is nestled in the middle of Fallcrest and sees plenty of paying customers.

It features a Well-Informed Barmaid, a consumables merchant, and a hearth to warm your spirits. Fallcrest might not be the largest city in Nerath, and larger cities might have more fancy establishments, but the Nentir Inn ale casks are always flowing and the city takes great pride in the inn! The owner of the inn is a half elf named Erandil Zemoar, a charming half elf in his mid thirties, Erandil showed up in Fallcrest one day about two years ago, bought land and built the Nentir Inn. Erandil's inn serves as the primary competition for Wisara Osterman's Unicorn Inn. The half-elf's primary clientelle are merchants from Winterhaven, Hammerfast and Moonstair, as well as travelers who happen to be passing through.

No customer is turned away as long as they have the money for their drinks and meals. Meals are mostly of standard prices, and the food and drink are well worth the prices. The guest rooms are rather pricey but, they are well worth the price. This establishment, has 11 rooms for rent upstairs and the overall structure is very well maintain and is a welcome sight to those coming in off the long roads. The main floor in the inn consists mostly an open area filled with tables and chairs and a well stocked bar located on the side of the room as you enter the tavern. Bar stools have been placed around the bar itself. The inn is clean and very well maintained, you can tell the owners take great pride in this establishment. General gossip is common within these walls "with the many travelers visiting this location all having tales to share".

Prices at the Nentir Inn are a little higher than usual but the meals that are prepared here make up for the increased prices. Choice venison, mutton, poached salmon, trout stuffed with specially prepared mixtures, goose roasted to a golden brown, pork, steaming sausages, steak and kidney pie with mushrooms or truffles, squab stuffed pheasant and boiled crayfish in drawn butter are just a few of the delights which are served here. Most Patrons include wealthy traveling merchants, traveling nobles, and citizens of Fallcrest.

Meals are served on pottery or pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages. The locally brewed ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region make their way to the boards of the Nentir Inn.

(All full meals served with bread and honey, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, cabbage, carrots, or spinach)

Visitors will notice standing behind the bar (during most business hours) - the barkeep, known commonly as Elrick Krenshaw, a middle-aged man, wearing a brown apron over a tan long sleeved shirt and tan pants. BREAKFAST

Blue Moon Alehouse
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Blue Moon Alehouse, a rather large tavern that is rumored to be one of the oldest taverns in Fallcrest. This brewhouse, on the banks of the Moonwash Stream is the best tavern in town, popular among halfling traders. The Alehouse has an aged look and feel to it but seems well put together and well maintained. Most of the clientele have plenty of coin to spend.

Kemara Brownbottle, Brewmaster of the Blue Moon Alehouse. The true (and recognized) genius behind the success of the Blue Moon Alehouse. This two story stone built establishment is a tavern in the city of Fallcrest. The building has a very warm and comfortable feel to it. Walking into the tavern, customers immediately notice the fine construction of the building. It is obvious the management has invested a lot of money into this tavern.

The Blue Moon Alehouse is a very nice drinking establishment located in the northernmost section of the city. It's proprietor is a elderly Halfling named Kemara Brownbottle who can often be found welcoming customers at the door. Many merchants and travelers can also be found here recruiting for various adventures. It is very popular among the short folk. It features a young female half-elven Barmaid named Trista, a consumables merchant, and three hearths to warm your spirits. The tavern has a warm, comfortable feel to it, the hearths are always roaring during the winter months and the taverns ale casks are always full! The establishment also has a "job board" where the governing body of Fallcrest posts various jobs that they are looking for assistance with.

Respectable customers are always welcome as long as they have the money for their drinks and meals. Meals are priced slightly higher than the norm, but the food and drink are well worth the price increase and with the tavern being located in the busier section of Fallcrest, the prices are easily a fair price for the customers that frequent this alehouse while remaining in range of travelers and merchants. The guest rooms are rather pricey but again, they are well worth the price.

The main floor of the tavern is mostly an of open area, with dividers separating each section and filled with tables and chairs and a well stocked bar located on the side of the room as you enter the tavern. Bar stools have been placed around the bar itself. The inn is clean and very well maintained, you can tell the owners take great pride in this establishment.

Meals are served on pottery, pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages.

The locally brewed dwarven ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region.

Halfmoon Trading House

Inspired By Gary Gygax
The Halfmoon family is a large, far-flung clan of halflings who keep small trading posts in several settlements throughout the Nentir Vale. This is the largest and most important of those establishments. It’s under the care of Selarund Halfmoon, a friendly halfling who dispenses a never-ending stream of advice to his customers.

Selarund Halfmoon, a friendly halfling dispenses a never-ending stream of advice to his customers, such as, “It never rains but as someone gets wet!” or “A nail ain’t afraid of a hammer with no handle!” No one knows what he’s talking about most of the time. He keeps a watchful eye on the comings and goings in Fallcrest. He runs the Halfmoon Trading House.

Fallcrest Harbor
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The harbor of Fallcrest is the largest and busiest port in Nentir Vale. It is able to occommodate even the largest of ships.

Along the city, its harbor was inset within a natural bay that formed off of the Nentir River as well as the Winter River making the city of Fallcrest the focal point for most of the trade within the vale. Massive in size and scope . . . rivaling even some of the larger cities of old throughout Nerath, the harbor features multiple large mechanical cranes that are used to load and unload cargoes onto and from ships.

Due to the city's receptive nature and business-first mentality, a variety of cargo passes through the docks of the city from throughout Nentir Vale.

Fallcrest Bathhouse
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This is a very large structure in the center of city of Fallcrest. This bathhouse serves upper-class clientele, this small bathhouse is seen as a bit pricey, a single bath cost 5sp, and adjoining baths for two hours is charged 8sp . . . so not everyone can afford to take regular baths.

The bathhouse is owned by a young man that goes by the name of Temen but he has a large staff that runs the daily operations of the bath house.

Inside of the entryway, there are marble busts and tapestries that are pulled back over the windows on either side which led into a hallway with the smell of lavender and the sound of soft music played by a resident violinist.

This hallway leads to two adjoining bath chambers separated by a low wall that came up to eye length, allowing for conversations but preserving privacy.

Sunlight is beaming in through glass fog windows that obscured any details, these chambers each have two central basins filled with freshly steaming water. These basins are designed with a hinged desk piece that folds over the water so that books, food, and drinks could safely rest while the guest bathes. Guests are also provided with linens, towels, and a pitcher of cucumber water.

The establishment has a very warm and pleasent feel to it.

Market Square
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather the market square and offer goods to the people of Nenlast. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the townsfolk to shop and socialize in the square. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here." Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square, however.

House of the Sun

Inspired By Gary Gygax
When Fallcrest was a larger city, it supported several good-sized temples located in the Hightown districts. With the town’s depopulation, several of these were abandoned, including the House of the Sun, a temple dedicated to Pelor. The place also includes shrines to Kord and Bahamut. Recently, a zealous dwarf priest of Pelor named Grundelmar came to Fallcrest from Hammerfast and reestablished this old temple. Grundelmar is loud and opinionated, a real fire-breather who goes on and on about smiting evil wherever it might lurk.

Fallcrest’s northern city gate is known as Knight’s Gate, because the Lord Warden’s riders normally come and go from the city by this road. The gate consists of strong outer doors of iron-reinforced timber and an inner portcullis between a pair of small stone towers. The portcullis is normally lowered at sunset, and the gates close only in times of danger.

The gatehouse barracks accommodates five Fallcrest guards plus Sergeant Nereth, who commands this gate.

The third of Fallcrest’s temples is devoted to Sehanine. It also includes shrines to Corellon, Melora, and Avandra. The Markelhays regard Sehanine as their special patron, and over the years they have given generously to the temple. The temple occupies a commanding position atop the bluffs, and its white minarets can be seen from any corner of Lowtown.

The leader of the temple is High priest Ressilmae Starlight, a wise and compassionate elf who finished adventuring decades ago and retired to a contemplative life. He is a musician of great skill who happily tutors the local children, even those who are poor and can’t afford to pay for their lessons.

Nentir Falls
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Here the Nentir River descends nearly 200 feet in three striking shelflike drops. On the small island in the middle of the falls stands the statue of an ancient human hero named Vendar, holding up his hand as if to challenge enemies approaching from downriver. Local legend tells that Vendar slew a dragon whose lair was hidden in caverns beneath the falls.

With the rise of the empire of Nerath to the south, human settlers began to move up the Nentir, establishing towns such as Fastormel, Harkenwold, and Winterhaven. A Nerathan hero named Aranda Markelhay obtained a charter to build a keep at the portage of the Nentir Falls. She raised a simple tower at the site of Moonstone Keep three hundred ten years ago, and under its protection the town of Fallcrest began to grow.

Boats proceeding down the Nentir must stop here and offload their cargo, which is then portaged through the town to the Lower Quays and loaded onto boats below the falls. Likewise, cargo heading in the other direction is carried up to these quays and loaded aboard boats bound upstream. Keelboats and similar craft put in here to unload their cargo and portage it up to other boats above the falls.

Boats belonging to a number of different travelers tie up here, the most common of which are the keel-boats of the halfling Swiftwater Clan. The Swiftwaters carry cargo all the way down to the Nentir’s mouth, hundreds of miles downriver. They’re more than willing to take passengers for a small fee. Irena Swiftwater is the matriarch of the clan. The river current begins to pick up on the south side of the bridge. Boats (or swimmers) venturing far from the banks are in danger of being carried over the falls.

The owner is Nimena Sandercot, the widow of the late and unlamented Marken Sandercot. She has three young sons, all of whom are quickly learning the family business.

The Silver Unicorn
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Silver Unicorn is a small tavern just south west of the main gate of the city. Wisera Osterman, a young halfling runs the Silver Unicorn Inn. She is a matriarch figure and very protective of the adventuring crew who make the basement of her Inn their base of operations.

The Silver Unicorn is situated near the main gate of Fallcrest. Wisera shoce this location for the inn to be constructed thinking the closer to the main gate the better it would attract patrons. This Inn is a popular stopping point for the locals of Fallcrest and is usually rather busy. This medium sized Inn is very well maintained and is always clean. The Inn was built less than a year ago and still has a rather new feel to it.

The building has a second floor which contains ten guest rooms "sized for big folk as well as little folk" with a communal washroom at the end of the main hallway. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. Although the hall does not contain windows with curtains, each of the rooms has its own window. Each room has a comfortable single sized bed, several covers & blankets, a wash stand, chamber pot, a couple of towels, pegs for garments, and a comfortable sitting chair. All of the guest rooms are identical in appearance, all stocked with the same exact items. Each room is the same price and they each sleep a single person.

The establishment is in every way a halfling built construction. Wisera tells her customers that when the Inn was built that she wanted it built in such a way as to bring just a little bit of her homeland to the commonfolk. The main floor in the inn consists mostly of an open area filled with small tables of different sizes with chairs and a small bar located along the wall just as you enter the establishment.

Four bar stools have been placed at the bar. The western end on the Inn is used as a small storage shelter that remains locked. This is where most of the wines and ales are stored . . . this chamber is more of an over stock room that casks are pulled from when inventory runs low in the Inn itself. The kitchen is a large area filled with cooks of several different races (with a menu such is the Silver Unicorn has, you need plenty of cooks).

Several tables have been set up outside the front of the inn for those wishing to have meals and enjoy the outdoors. Along the southern wall of the main floor dining area is a large hearth which is large enough to heat the entire main floor during the winter months. When sitting within the dining area one will see two, possibly three female "halfings" waiting tables in a joyful manner. Prices at the The Silver Unicorn are priced a "little" at normal price comparable to other inns across the vale. The meals that are prepared here are spoken well of across the vale. The ales are important from all across the region, many from Hammerfast and are always top quality ales and beers.

(All full meals are served with bread and honey, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, cabbage, carrots, or spinach along with whatever meat and drink the customer orders with it)

The limestone bluffs between Hightown and Lowtown hold a number of caves, which the folk of Fallcrest have used as burial crypts for centuries. As caves fill up, they are walled off and forgotten about. Naturally, stories abound in town about treasure hoards hidden away in the crypts, and the restless undead that guard them.

Along the southern slopes of Moonstone Hill grows a large thicket that has never been entirely cleared. Within its tangled paths lies the old castle cemetery (now heavily overgrown), as well as a battle-mound dating to the time of Bael Turath. These old crypts are linked by secret passages to dangerous, sealed-off parts of the Moonstone Caverns beneath the town.

Lannar Thistleton owns this business, providing travelers with tack, harness, stabling, shoeing, wagons, and just about anything dealing with horses, mules, or ponies. He keeps a larger corral about a mile outside of town, and at any given time Lannar has several riding horses, draft horses, or mules in his paddock near Wizard’s Gate. The halfling is an excellent source of rumors, since he sees the travelers coming or going by the roads. He is a friendly fellow of about forty, with a large brood of children at his home out in the countryside.

Other buildings in the courtyard include a stable, an armory, a chapel, a smithy, and several storehouses. The keep is the large D-shaped building at the north end of the castle.

Septarch’s Tower
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This massive structure is a tall, seven-sided spire of pale blue, green and grey stone that doesn’t match anything else in the town. It sits upon a high topped hill in Fallcrest to give it an air of importance as it overlooks the city. In the days before the Bloodspear War, this was the seat of Fallcrest’s mages’ guild—an order of a dozen or so wizards and arcane scholars.

Defensive enchantments prevented the orcs from sacking the tower, but the guild’s members died fighting for the city or fled to safer lands.

The tower is now the property of Nimozaran the Green, an elderly wizard who was once apprenticed to the last of the old guild mages. Nimozaran considers himself the “High Septarch of Fallcrest” and master of the guild, whose membership now includes only himself and a rather unpromising male halfling apprentice named Tobolar Quickfoot. Nimozaran expects any potential new guild members to pay a hefty initiation fee, and so far none of the few other arcanists living in or passing through Fallcrest have seen reason to join.

Before the fall of the guild, All arcane spellcasters in the city were entitled to join this organization, either as short-term guests or permanent, dues-paying members. The benefits of membership included access to hard-to-find spell components, the use of the guild’s research facilities, and the prospect of professional discourse with others of a similar mind. While there was collaboration with other wizards of the realm, the guild mostly looked after its own.

Nimozaran the Green is an elderly human wizard who was once apprenticed to the last of the old guild mages. Nimozaran hosted many powerful wizards in the Septarch's Tower prior to the Bloodspear War. Nimozaran is now one of the members of the newly formed White Council. While powerful, Nimozaran is by means the most powerful wizard in the vale but when asked he would not admit this fact.

Nimozaran has a hawk-like face, with a permanent frown that gives the appearance of alertness and almost anger, and a penetrating gaze. He keeps a long flowing beard and wears high collared robes. His voice is deep and melodic. When upset, his eyes crackles with eldritch power.

Years ago he spent a number of years in Barovia, trapped in the domain ruled by a powerful domain lord. It took him many years to find the way to escape. Even during his younger years his hair and beard were both long, black and peppered with grey streaks.

Over the many years his appearance has remain the same for the most part except for his aging, but he has lost none of his penetrating stare. Typically stubborn and one who does not suffer fools gladly, Nimozaran can be difficult even with his friends.

These days Nimozaran the Green is usually sealed within the tower studying his books and scrolls, rarely coming out to be among the city folk.

Fallcrest Watch House
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Located in the city of Fallcrest sits a large building where the Captain of the Fallcrest militia coordinates his detachment of soldiers, and where miscreants serve their sentences. The Winterhaven Captain of the Guard is Elric Vondergal, a serious looking male human close to the age of 50, when on duty he is always dressed smartly in his guard uniform. Plate epaulets and higher quality arms and armor easily make him distinguishable from the common city militia. He commands a force of guards who keep Fallcrest relatively safe.

The Fallcrest Watch House stands at the intersection of Fallcrest Way and Nentir Road. The watch house is a base for the Fallcrest Regulars and also serves as a barracks for some of the militia themselves. Also a part of the building "in the basement" is the Fallcrest jail. The watch house also has a rather large armory "which is located in the back of the main floor and very well secured". Usually, four, sometimes six Fallcrest militia are present in the watch house at any given time, either hearing public complaints, guarding the jail, or sleeping.

The barracks is located on the second floor containing multiple bunks for sleeping. The jail which is located in the basement has a dozen cells. Each cell is approximately 20 square feet in size.

Inspired By Gary Gygax
This is the home of the self-styled “lord” Armos Kamroth, a wealthy landowner who collects rents from scores of farmers and herders living in the countryside nearby. Armos is a brusque, balding man of about fifty who makes a show of loaning money in good faith and exacting only what the law allows—but somehow he has quietly bought up dozens of free farms over the years and turned their owners into his tenants.

Teldorthan Ironhews is the town’s weaponsmith and armorer. He is a garrulous old fellow who spends his time trading stories with his customers with a pipe clenched in his teeth, while his apprentices (two of whom are his sons) do the work. Make no mistake—Teldorthan is a master armorer, and under his supervision his apprentices turn out work of exceptional quality. Every now and then he does like to refresh his expert skills and show off his skills to others.

The Market Square
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The majority of Fallcrest’s folk live above the bluffs in Hightown and walk down to do business on the streets of Lowtown, which bustle with commerce. This wide square in the center of the city where Fallcrest’s merchants and visiting traders do business in good weather. The town’s children gather here for games of tag or kick-stones. Usually this area is kept busy two to three times per week, and when not in use it is used as an open square for those wishing to meet and converse with one another.

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather in the square and offer goods to the people of Fallcrest. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the city folk to shop and socialize in the square.
