About Our Nerath Campaign Setting
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This is just me rambling on about what I want to do with this setting and my campaign in my own words, things that I want to do with my Nentir Vale and adventures I plan to add into this region so humor me lol. It should be a lot of fun.

You folks have no idea how annoying it has been for me trying to decide which setting to make my own and yea I am one of the DMs that prefers to remain in a single setting so I can build a story behind the players characters and things that change with the characters interactions. I've been torn between Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Ravenloft: Sithicus Domain and a cvouple of smaller regions that are classicifed as settings - such as Dolmenwood, the Wild Lands and a couple more other settings but in the end I went with Nerath, specifically Nentir Vale.

I love the history and lore of the Nentir Vale region and how it was affected by the Nerathi war and the aftermath of with the Empire of Nerath collapsing and how it affgected the rest of the world . . . specifically Nentir Vale. I like how this setting has a dark, sinister feel to him, it kind of feels like a post apocalyptic setting with the fallout from the great war.

With Nentir Vale being a 4th edition D&D Point of Light, I like it even more. Don't know what a Point of Light is? Let me drop this quote for you then . . .

4th edition D&D introduced a new world (eventually called Nerath) and a default starting area called Nentir Vale. The premise of a points of light setting is that the world is fallen; civilized people now live in small, isolated settlements (the points of light) scattered across a dark and dangerous world.

Basically, the world is in a state of rebuilding after the fallout from the great war. I plan to focus my setting on Nentir Vale. I believe this region has enough adventure packed into it to keep my campaign going for many years.

Nentir Vale is a setting where you'll find small, isolated “points of light” surrounded by the darkness of the untamed wild. Travel between communities is dangerous with bandits, vicious humanoids, and monsters of all kinds in control of the darkness between settled areas.

Now, lets talk about my plans for Nentir Vale and how I was to run it as an isolated setting. My plan is to just keep my focus on Nentir Vale, keeping my players here indefinitely. I honestly think this region has enough content in it that I will never run out of things to run for my players to keep them busy for a long time. I also can add in adventures in the Underdark which should be easy enough with the Cloakwood have an Underdark theme. We also have the Shadowfell to sprinkle in along with the Feywild and even Ravenloft.

What I like most about making Nentir Vale my entire campaign setting is, it will be easy for the players characters to make a difference here. Players characters can be true heroes of the vale and I am sure they will enjoy that title being given to them as the save settlements from the encroaching darkness.
