Moon Tower
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Named for the silver crescent moon painted on the door, Moon Tower is where Nenlast's few mages congregate. Owned by an old mage by the name of Cromlen, Moon Tower is a combination magic shop and residence.

While Cromlen's adventuring days have slowed down drastically in the last decade or so, rumors abound of arcane secrets and trinkets held within the tower. Many say this mage is more than he seems.

It is a lone tower, standing some 70 feet (21 meters) high with a spired top located just outside of Nenlast. It has a hard oak wooden door door, and it had three large windows on the top level.

The tower is made out of smooth stone, with a single window in the front of the tower itself and three windows on the top floor. From the outside, the structure appears to be a four-story stone tower, but inside, there are at least a half dozen more levels, and some of these can only be reached by magical means. Everything in the tower connects to the central stairwell, although magical passwords were required to transport to certain areas of this tower. The four levels visible from the outside were all freely accessible via simply using the stairs.

The tower had 70 ft ceilings. The tower was very well lit with much of the tower using wall-mounted lanterns to provide additional light. The first floor was mainly a lunge area, with comfortable chairs and such for visitors to sit in. The second floor serves as mostly a storage area of vials, tomes and such . . . general items a wizard would need for his research. The third floor is used by Cromlen as his working and living areas. This floor includes an alchemy laboratory and a library

The fourth floor was entirely dedicated to Cromlen's living quarters. This level contained mostly items for comfort such as a bed, a couple of comfortable chairs, tables and chests and a large desk and chair.

Cromlen the Sorcerer is a powerful wizard that resides in Nenlast within Nentir Vale, prefering the simplicity of living in a smaller settlement where he is least bothered by others and can live a life of quiet solitude. Unofficially he is retired, unofficially . . . it's none of your concern "as he would say". Cromlen's most notable feature is his pircing blue eyes which seem to be able to see things others cannot, which distinguished him since his youth, throughout the years he spent most of his time studying the arcane arts. He has a shock of stark white hair in his youth, and has maintained a beard through most of his years that eventually also has went pure white in his old age. As mentioned before, Cromlen has vibrant blue eyes set under big bushy eyebrows that turned blue-gray later in life.

In his later years, the elderly Cromlen has begun to show his age, with his gruff voice and weathered features, but remaines alert. He prefers to wear robes, like black or dark blue robes.

While Cromlen is capable of taking on almost any appearance imaginable, even that of a beholder he once slew, he often prefers to travel in a less conspicuous manner, often utilizing invisibility and shapechange spells. Depending on the circumstances, Cromlen can be as equally serious, fearsome, or arrogant, while just as often demonstrating exceptional charm, cleverness, and good-natured humor.

At all times he is said to be wholly fearless and entirely forthright with others. Cromlen is a natural raconteur and actor, and can take on the role of father figure, a wily trickster, an immoral rake, or any other clichéd role that serves his needs at the time, or else on a whim to elicit a reaction from others. Most often Cromlen chooses to only reveal the full range of his character to his close friends and companions.

Cromlen extols the virtues of tolerance, peace, and freedom from oppression. He truly cherishes the wonder and beauty of the natural world. While Cromlen grew up hating magic, especially those that wielded it for their own selfish ends, he garnered a profound appreciation for the Power and the Art during his studies. According to Cromlen, mages should further their studies to best understand how to avoid using the arcane power they had at their disposal.

One of Cromlen's personality quirks was that he snored loudly while sleeping. He was considerate enough to magically mute himself during sleep if it would disturb his friends. The popular word amongst those who know him however is Cromlen did not actually need to sleep, but this has not been made factual. Sarsauce fowl, a baked fowl dish, was one of Cromlen's favorite foods found in the realms, second only to fire-seared barbfin or smoked salmon.

Before he devoted his life to his wizardly studies, the young Cromlen possessed the innate ability to heal himself and detect magical auras at will. Cromlen is exceptionally intelligent—a gift that was bolstered by multiple castings of the wish spell, "which makes once wonder just how powerful this wizard really is". He is also blessed with an eidetic memory, that allows him to recall information from years past in quite an impressive manner.

Cromlen considers his exceptional memory as something of a curse. He can't help but remember the death of every friend and loved one, along with every tragedy he could not prevent over the thousand-plus years of his life.
