Moon Hills
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Moon Hills are the hills surrounding Fallcrest that help to protect it by making it difficult for any sizeable group or army to advance without breaking up. Without the Moon Hills to help keep them safe from intruders, Fallcrest would not have lasted nearly as long as it has, and would have surely been obliterated during the Bloodspear War. The first group of Bloodspear orcs to arrive overcame the soldiers and militia and ransacked Fallcrest rather than completely destroying it. The orcs left many buildings burning and returned to the main orc army telling them the mission was complete and that Fallcrest was completely destroyed. The orc commander, seeing the smoke from the town, turned the rest of his army to attack other human settlements.

The residents of Fallcrest respect these hills and small fertile valleys and owe much of their prosperity to them. The Moon Hills over the centuries have been lightly settled by humans from many empires and there are ruins of various ages dotted all over it.

The area closest to the town is well patrolled by the Fallcrest Guard, but beyond that goblins and human bandits are known to exist. On the blackest of nights, a fearsome beast is said to roam the hills and moors of that region, hunting the unwary. No one has ever seen the Dark Drake and lived to tell the tale - its existence is only known by the gruesome remains it leaves behind.

The Dark Drake is in some ways Fallcrest’s pet monster, as it features in many stories told in taverns or to children. These tales attribute all sorts of weird abilities to it, and also talk about its extensive brood. These “lesser” drakes have been frequently spotted in the area, and they’re also clearly more dangerous and malignant than simple natural animals, but the Dark Drake itself has remained elusive for decades, evading even experienced monster hunters. Serious scholars dismiss it as just a myth. It doesn’t help that opportunists from Fallcrest sometimes stage hoaxes to make a buck or cover up a more mundane murder. Nevertheless, these smaller drakes and hoaxes can’t explain all the bodies found on the Moon Hills.

Nenlast Patisserie Shoppe
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Nenlast Patisserie Shoppe is a bakery and home of the Chessa family in Nenlast. It is owned and ran by a pair of talented bakers known as Jemma and her husband Jameson.

The shop stands next to the Black Trout Inn which gives this establishment a lot of business. The building is a small bakery, and surprisingly well stocked for a settlement of this small size, with the front of the shop facing the main street that goes through the center of Nenlast. It has a small cellar for storing supplies, with the ground floor given over to the business and upper floor used as the family home.

The ground floor has two main sections. The front of the building is the store and is open to the public. Here, a counter ringed the room with large cabinets displaying the day's wares; there is also a bread bin. A corridor leads to the back of the the building. The cellar of the building is used for storage, holding ingredients. At the rear was the kitchen and preparation area, with a large oven, cooling racks, and work bench. The oven is magical (and the only true magic item in the building), being able to automatically adjust its temperature so everything was baked to perfection.

The bakery has a small dining room at the front of the shop. Upstairs is a small living area, furnished with two couches, rug, and bookcase with a small bedroon in the back. Off of it is a bathroom with bathtub. The shop as a whole is very cosy and confortable and it very popular with the residents of Nenlast. At times the shop has been known to have customers from outside Nenlast . . . the Nenlast Patisserie Shoppe is known throughout Nentir Vale.

Black Trout Inn
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Black Trout Inn is two-story building set in the center of the settlement and is the only inn within Nenlast.

The inn has five rooms upstairs with a communal washroom at the very end of the hall. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Although the hall does not contain windows with curtains, each of the rooms has a window. Each room has a comfortable bed, many covers & blankets, a wash stand, chamber pot, towel, pegs for garments, and several chairs and stools.

Somewhere in the inn is a job board, where people can ask for help with jobs. The overall construction of the Black Trout Inn closely resembles the appearance of the Five League House. Both inns were constructed roughly about the same time and by the same construction crews. Both owners are on friendly terms and often assist each other with needed provisions in times of need.

Red Toran is a man "in his mid 40's" who is the proprietor of the Black Trout Inn, that rents out the rooms and seems to manage the inn. He is polite and smiles often to customers, but one can tell he does not tolerate visitors who do not respect the rules of his establishment. He is friendly enough "for the most part" and is always welcoming to those visiting. A redheaded barmaid named Adelaine, rushes from table to table taking orders and going to and from the kitchen in the back to get meals for customers.

Red Toran, the proprietor of the Black Trout Inn, came to the town of Nenlast seeking opportunity in prospecting like many others. He soon found that he knew more about running an inn than mining, so he established the inn.

The establishment is a nondescript everyday Inn one might find in any mid-sized town or village. The main floor in the inn consists mostly of open area filled with small round tables with chairs and a medium sized bar located along the left side on the main floor as you enter the establishment.

Candles have been place throughout the dining area which keep the bottom floor well lit. Bar stools have been placed at the bar itself. The inn is clean and very well maintained, you can tell Nana takes great pride in her business. At most times during the day, a young red headed girl can be seen waiting tables and Yorda herself is usually here as well, standing behind the bar.

Prices at the Black Trout Inn are reasonable and the meals that are prepared here make up for short comings the Inn might have. Choice venison, mutton, poached salmon, trout stuffed with specially prepared mixtures, goose roasted to a golden brown, pork, steaming sausages, steak and kidney pie with mushrooms or truffles, squab stuffed pheasant and boiled crayfish in drawn butter are just a few of the delights which are served here. The inn may be slightly smaller than most inns but it is well ran and has earned its good reputation it currently has.

Meals are served on pottery or pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages. The locally brewed ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region make their way to the boards of the Nestled Nook Inn.

Watch House
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

In the center of Nenlast sits a stout building where the Master of Arms coordinates her city watch and miscreants serve their sentences. The Nenlast Master of Arms is Felos, " her last name is unknown to the public - she simply goes by the name Felos Half Elven", a female half-elf veteran "former adventurer" retired in the town. She commands a small force of guards who keep the town safe.

The Nenlast Watch House stands at the intersection of Brandywine Road and Garnet Way. The watch house is a base for the Nenlast Watch and also serves as a barracks for the local militia. Also a part of the building "in the basement" is the Nenlast jail and an armory "which is located in the back of the main floor and well secured". Usually, one, sometimes two militia are present in the watch house at any given time, either hearing public complaints, guarding the jail, or sleeping.

The barracks is located on the second floor containing multiple bunks for sleeping. The jail which is located in the basement has nine cells. Each cell is approximately 15 square feet in size.

Erkar's General Store
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Most popular for its wide selection of bait and tackle, Erkar's General Store sells just about any necessity for life on the shores of Lake Nen, including archery gear and leather products. Erkar carries some of the most basic spell components, but it's a small selection that he doesn't really cater to, as most mages prefer to buy from the Sapphire Tower.

Erkar took over the general store in Nenlast when his wife passed and has been running it for the last four years. He has a variety of items available for sale, including anything off the list of adventuring gear shown in the Player’s Handbook. He does not deal in the magic business, finding his lack of knowledge of the arcane extremely limited.

For the most part, this establishment is generally looked at as being well stocked in the surrounding region surprisingly for such a small settlement, selling anything from clothing, to dried foods and such. He also sells general utility items found in the Players Handbook and sells such items at 155% mark up value.

Nenlast Chapel
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Rather than having multiple churches dedicated to individual deities, Nenlast has only a small chapel with individual altars or statues for most of the pantheon: Erathis, Pelor, Avandra, Bahamut, Melora, Ioun, and Kord. The chapel is overseen by Korlas, a priest dedicated to Erathis, though there are a number of other priests of various deities. The Raven Queen is not represented at the chapel, but there is a small shrine to her at the entrance to the graveyard.

This newly established chapel was built and funded by the Nenlast community in honor of the aid rendered to the settlement by the locals in the battle against marauding orcs some years ago. A somewhat distant cleric and his assistant officiate during services and otherwise serve their flock. In general, anyone entering the chapel in other times would have to deal with a lesser cleric but with the rumors that have been circulating, most important clergy can be found here during the daylight hours.

Ironheart Smithy
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Ironheart Smithy is run by the Ironhearts, a family of dwarves living in the only completely-stone building in Nenlast. The Ironhearts are known for their no-frills, high-quality craftsmanship and blades that are very durable and solid. Most iron and steel products can be bought at the Ironheart Smithy, including swords, axes, and armor. The smithy is run by Kora Ironheart, who boasts that she is the best smith in all of the Nentir Vale.

A dwarf named Kora Ironheart owns this smithy. People can purchase a variety of mundane wares here, including spikes, weapons, and such. Simple weapons are readily available, but military weapons require one day to complete, and superior weapons require a week of work.

Mounts and such stabled here are well taken care off and groomed on a regular bases. Gentry and his grandson do not have set rates for stabling mounts, Samuel usually works off of tips since he finds he earns a better living doing business this way.

Traders Bank
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Nenlast Traders Bank is a small banking business in Nenlast that offers money-lending and secured storage to the merchants and traders that come through town. It is owned by Gendel Alton.

The bank is located near the edge of Nenlast and has been well established for several years. It carries a good working reputation with it's customers and the people of Nenlast. The bank is established within a well-secured building that is rumored to have magical wards placed here by the wizard Cromlen to assist in the location remaining secure at all times.

This local bank is endorsed by Lord Mayor Thure Karn and during all business hours one can always find two guards stationed outside the bank at the entrance. Word has it the the Wizard Cromlen has placed multiple wards and safeguards within the building to prevent it from being robbed. It is unsure if this is actually true, no one has been stupid enough to attempt a robbery of this banking establishment.

Nenlast Bank
The bank offers a fairly straightforward service. Individuals can deposit their hard-earned coin within the secured building and withdraw the same amount at a later date. Information about the amounts of transactions and the bank's clientele are kept secret. The banks handling fees are 2% for all coin deposits and storage (no matter the length of time the bank holds a customers coin and valuables) and 3% are non coin valuables stored within the bank.

The Nenlast Bank does not offer loans to customers.

Tenements
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
This large tenement structure features apartments for the village residents who do not own farms or who work in the businesses within the settlement. Several families also live in the homes on the west side of the village. Most of the villagers who live outside the settlement are farmers and crafters who bring their wares to the Market Square to sell or trade.

The tenements belong to the settlement of Nenlast, they are not independently owned and operated by an individual. A weekly rent is sent to the office of Lord Mayor Thure Karn and is then used to maintain structures in Nenlast, pay the militia and other things that keep this settlement flourishing. It does however have an individual that administers the weekly funds, a kindly woman by the name of Esta Randa. She runs a nearby office during the day that handles all business for the tenement.

Rent is mostly dependent on what profession the person(s) is/are. People that have higher incomes will be rented to for an elevated rent fee (in other words, adventurers will be able to pay a lot more since they are usually "well off").

Cemetary

The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Dedicated to the Raven Queen, with an altar to her just inside the main gate to the cemetary, the cemetary is a patch of dead grass with headstones scattered haphazardly. There is no priest of the Raven Queen in Nenlast, so the care of the graveyard falls to the other clergy, who don't take as much care of the cemetery as they do the chapel.

After orc incursion years ago, many were laid to rest in the cemetary which is located just outside of Nenlast, including some members of Allara Estorean's former adventuring party: Syrus Kalidrem, Dohla Loria, and Ghen Taleve. The cemtary is maintained by a grounds keeper named Relic Tamsen.

Dawnforge Mountains
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Named for the legendary mountain at the eastern edge of the world where Moradin is said to have crafted the sun, the massive Dawnforge Mountains define the eastern boundary of the Nentir Vale. Beyond the mountains, the land grows quickly wilder, for only a few settlements were ever established that far from Nerath’s capital, and even fewer have lasted to the present day. The foothills to the east of the mountains are infested with goblins and orcs, making trade with those remaining towns dangerous and difficult.

The dwarven fortress of Hammerfast is often considered the last point of civilization before departing the Vale.

It is said by the dwarves who make these mountains their home that the Dawnforge Mountains are the anvil upon which Moradin built all of creation. Though other folk are not as fervent in their beliefs regarding the mountains, it is nearly universally felt that these giant peaks are the oldest and tallest mountains in the world stretching well over 100 miles across the eastern half of Nentir Vale.

Few passes penetrate all the way through the mountains and none of them are passable in winter — the only way through them at that time of year is by the endless tunnels and caverns that criss-cross the range. Without a guide, a traveler in these underground passages is sure to be hopelessly lost in the Underdark or worse.

Legend holds that the Dawnforge Mountains arose when Torog nearly erupted from the Underdark through to the surface of the world, and the peaks' steep slopes and rocky, forbidding facade support the tale. They stand against the sky, a wall of rock and stone bounding the Nentir Vale's eastern border. Portions of the mountains are covered with snowcapped evergreen forests, although the three most notable peaks in this region, the Sentinel, Mount Starris ~ (named for the Wizard), and Forgepeak, rise above the tree line.

Most of this mountain range remains unexplored and very danagerous to those wishing to explore it. Many legends, rumors and tales of lost cities, deep dungeons and ruins are rumored to exist within this vast stretch of mountains.

Old Lighthouse
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

It was located on a rocky outcropping along the stretch of the coast north of the settlement of Nenlast, on the High Hedge. West of the lighthouse is a small cove that once housed treasure of a long ago pirate that once sailed these waters. The stone lighthouse stands tall on a small hill just outside of Nenlast.

The Tower stands 40 feet (12 meters) tall with a diameter of 25 feet (7.6 meters). A wooden door is found along the base which leads to a stairway along the inner wall that provides access to all three levels of the tower. A continual flame effect was adorned the top of the tower and was visible for miles in every direction but it has long since went out and the tower is has basically abandoned ever since.

Valthrun's Tower
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This five-story structure is the highest building in Winterhaven. The tower is rumored to be over 300 years old, and Valthrun the Prescient is its most recent resident. Valthrun doesn’t use much of the tower; he inhabits the top two levels. The bottom three levels are locked "used for storage" . . . except for the stairway connecting them to Valthrun’s quarters. The sage and scholar has a small selection of 1st and 2nd level spells that he is willing to sell once he determines the worth and merit of an adventurer. "DM's descretion within the Player’s Handbook for availablility of spells".

Valthrun the Prescient: Valthrun is a sage and scholar who lives in this tower which is located within Winterhaven’s walls. Valthrun first met the original members of the Godsworn when they came to Winterhaven to dispose of increased bandit activity in the area. This led the company of heroes to foil the plot of the Orcus death cultist "Kalarel", who was attempting to re-open a rift to the Shadowfell beneath the ruins of an old keep. Valthrun has been a source of information and wisdom to the Godsworn, and is one of the founding members of the newly reformed White Council of Wizards.

Viserys was originally Valthrun's apprentice, though he was studying under Nimozaran the Green in Fallcrest when the events at the Shadowfell Keep transpired. Valthrun is a historian and theologian, who resides in a tower in Winterhaven. His tower is a 300-yr old intact structure that predates Winterhaven. It serves as the perfect home for Valthrun, who spends most of his time reading about days of yore in the tower’s various libraries. The libraries include an extensive collection of books on the Shadowfell as well. Thinking it to be the source of Winterhaven’s protection from the elements, Lord Padraig used to maintain a guard for the old tower but happily lets Valthrun maintain residence, knowing the wizard has rigged a host of magical wards to protect its valuable contents. Only Dennanmar has managed a peek at this collection, learning about creatures from the Shadowfell.

Valthrun’s second home is The Coach and Pony in Hammerfast. Though the inn is run by Varda Goldspinner – rooms (and passage around town on Kavik’s coach) are frequently given as favors or rewards by her sister, Marsinda, the High Mistress of Hammerfast. Having helped a ghostly paladin recover loot stolen from his tomb, Valthrun was offered accommodations as a reward. Each time he returns to Hammerfast, he offers something new. On his latest trip, Valthrun used his recently acquired ability to Speak with Dead to smooth over relations among Hammerfast’s many dead occupants. Valthrun is a member of the Lore Guild and visits the Lore Spire daily when he is in Hammerfast, followed by tea at The Black Cat.

His third “home” must be Wrafton’s Inn (in Winterhaven), where he can be found sharing breakfast with Lord Padraig or looking for adventurers to help him explore various ruins: Keegan’s Keep, Tomb of Empress Agera, Gardmore Abbey. Although he pays handsomely for adventurers to map such ruins, he does not shy away from adventure when it feeds his love for history.

Despite his capability in combat, Valthrun is a bit squeamish when it comes to blood, especially his own. He wears a never-empty pouch of bandages, doling them out to anyone wounded. Valthrun, himself, starts each day clean and intends to stay that way. When wounded, he teleports away to clean himself up. When desperate, he calls upon the services of his Tome Caddy, Malic, who draws forth the Tome of the Replenishing Flame, casting Fireshield or Wall of Fire with regenerating flames.

Valthrun has been training as a Spellgarde Wizard, allowing him bonuses to armor class and boosts to Blast spells which both help considerably in combat. Not only can he increase the range of his fireballs, but he can convert blast spells into burst spells. Tainted perhaps by his many nights of Shadowfell reading, Valthrun tends to incorporate shadowy psychic attacks as well. Valthrun also has Melee Training and loves to whack people with his magic staff, sometimes knocking them flat. Needless to say, Valthrun is a powerful wizard and is respected throughout the region and even beyond.

Valthrun has a unique capability for foreknowledge. Often, he sees events just prior to them actually happening. This can give him an advantage in combat (or take away an opponent’s advantage). This foreknowledge offers some protection to others as well. Conversations with Valthrun can be confusing as he has a better grasp of the past than the present, which gets muddled at times by the future.

Wrafton's Inn
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This spacious inn and tavern serves as the public eating house for the region. Like alehouses everywhere, Wrafton’s Inn offers beer, wine, and, on occasion, spirits. Meals are served for those with the coin, and beds for travelers are available. A crowd of villagers gathers each night to drink, gossip, sing, and play games of chance.

In addition to village residents, any travelers passing through Winterhaven are found here. Wrafton’s owner and proprietor is a female human named Salvana Wrafton. She employs several waiters, waitresses, and cooks. Salvana is friendly and open, quick with a smile and a warm welcome.

Wrafton’s Inn is decorated with curios, salvage, and relics from across Nentir Vale from before the end of the war. An old statue from a beloved fountain stands in the corner, the planter boxes of a Winterhaven wineseller are mounted on the walls and filled with flowers, the privy door sports the doorknob and knocker from a noble's house, and unbroken panes of stained glass were hung from the ceiling and loaded with hundreds of candles for use as chandeliers. It all appears tasteful rather than tacky. The patrons of Wrafton’s Inn believe this is a proper way to honor the past days during the height of the Vale.

The walls are thick, the better for privacy. Overall, the Inn is clean and comfortable - having a rather worn look to it. The inside is bright and welcoming, with live music and lots of light. The décor includes elements modeled on flowers, seed pods, and leaves. The furniture was carved of wood.

Mounted on the wall just as people walk in is a job board that usually has several job requests for others to accept. The establishment is a nondescript everyday Inn one might find in any mid-sized town or village. Bairwin's Grand Shoppe
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.

Bairwin Wildarson traveled the world, or so he claims, before setting up shop in Winterhaven four years ago. He has a variety of items available for sale, including anything off the list of adventuring gear shown in the Player’s Handbook. He occasionally has a few 1st-level magic items for sale "but this is such a rare thing, for game purposes he is usually out of stock with a 5% chance of having anything of worth", and he sometimes has a couple of potions of healing available in the shop.

For the most part, this establishment is generally looked at as the Nenlast General Goods store, selling anything was clothing, to dried foods and such. He also sells general utility items found in the Players Handbook and sells such items at 125% mark up value.

Winterhaven Temple
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This large stone structure is the Winterhaven temple. Of the several deities worshiped by locals, Avandra, goddess of luck and change, is the most prominent. The temple priest, Sister Linora, runs services in the temple three times per week, but otherwise she is not often present.

She prefers to travel among the homes outside the walls, dispensing care to villagers and animals and helping with various farm projects. Winterhaven has a graveyard for which Sister Linora serves as caretaker. The graveyard is located a short distance south of the walled town.

The temple itself is a rather large structure. The Winterhaven Temple stands in the far side of the settlement and faces the south side of Diamond Street between Granite Street and the Street of Knowledge. Running around the temple on the east, west, and south sides is a passage known as Moon Alley. It stands five blocks east of the main gate. It is one of the most significant structures in Winterhaven.

The temple iss an imposing edifice with a beautiful entrance that dominates the block and is more grandiose than most of the neighboring noble villas. The two-story temple complex has interior & exterior walls built mostly of dark granite brick, over which is a façade of dark marble tiles, almost 4 feet (1.2 meters) on each side. These are painted with overlapping moonglow spells in the form of runes to display the faith's teachings to the outside world. It has a central hall ringed by lesser domes and tall slender towers of circular or hexagonal plan.

Every dome and tower-top was gilt with gold such that the whole temple could sometimes appear entirely golden even with the dark granite walls. Each dome and corner was topped by a spire bearing a crescent moon. A wide stairway leads up to the huge double doors under an arch adorned with more symbols of the Avandra, and flanked by smaller arches. Many balconies and large windows looked out over the streets.

Winterhaven Tenements
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
This large tenement structure features apartments for the village residents who do not own farms or who work in the businesses within the walls who do not have a permanent residence. Several families also live in the homes on the west side of the village. Most of the villagers who live outside the walls are farmers and crafters who bring their wares to the Market Square to sell or trade.

The tenements belong to Winterhaven government, they are not independently owned and operated by any individual. The weekly rent starting at 10sp/week is sent to the office of Lord Mayor Ernest Padraig and is then used to maintain structures within Winterhaven, pay the militia and other things that keep this settlement flourishing. Rent is mostly dependent on what profession the person(s) is/are. People that have higher incomes will be rented to for an elevated rent fee (in other words, adventurers will be able to pay a lot more since they are usually "well off"). It does however have an individual that administers the weekly funds, a kindly woman by the name of Marita Olven. She runs a nearby office during the day that handles all business for the tenements.

Winterhaven citizens can join the Warrior Guild and train, once per week, in basic sword and shield skills. The guild trains in Market Square on days when the market is not open. Some citizens earn militia pay (a few silver pieces per year) by training at least once per month and being on call for emergencies. Rond Kelfem, captain of the Winterhaven Regulars, also oversees the Warrior Guild. He can be found here, in the barracks, or on guard duty, depending on the time of day.

Market Square
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The majority of the Winterhaven folk live above the bluffs in Hightown and walk down to do business on the streets of Lowtown, which bustle with commerce. This wide square is an open area, full of shops and portable stalls where Winterhaven merchants and visiting traders do business during good weather. The town’s children gather here for games of tag or kick-stones.

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather in the square and offer goods to the people of Winterhaven. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the city folk to shop and socialize in the square. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here." Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square, however.

Winterhaven Watch House
The Nerath Campaign & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Nerath campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
In the far corner from the main gate of the settlement of Winterhaven sits a large building where the Captain of the Winterhaven Regulars coordinates his detachment of soldiers, and where miscreants serve their sentences. The Winterhaven Captain of the Guard is Rond Kelfem, a serious looking male human around 40 years of age, when on duty he is always dressed smartly in his guard uniform. Golden epaulets and higher quality arms and armor easily make him distinguishable from the common city militia. He commands a small force of guards who keep Winterhaven relatively safe.

The Winterhaven Watch House stands at the intersection of Winter Way and Stonehenge Road. The watch house is a base for the Winterhaven Regulars and also serves as a barracks for some of the militia themselves. Also a part of the building "in the basement" is the Winterhaven jail. The watch house also has a rather large armory "which is located in the back of the main floor and very well secured". Usually, four, sometimes six Winterhaven Regulars are present in the watch house at any given time, either hearing public complaints, guarding the jail, or sleeping.

The barracks is located on the second floor containing multiple bunks for sleeping. The jail which is located in the basement has a dozen cells. Each cell is approximately 20 square feet in size.
